For our kitchen gardens we use the market garden layout which uses 75cm wide beds. We currently have 75 square metres of growing space for annuals, and 50 for perennials. We enjoy using the standardised format and transplanting has already shown to be much more comfortable as we can straddle the plant bed as we work.
Our annual beds are rotated twice a year, with Spring/Summer being dedicated to the bulk of our vegetable production, and winter dedicated to beans, peas, onion and garlic.
Our perennial growing space is dedicated to strawberry, rhubarb, asparagus, berries and apples, and in the future if we can germinate some yarrow, pawpaw, palms and tea plants we will include them too.
